• You can play Gin Rummy with a 52-card deck. The ascending rank for the cards is A-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K-A. The objective of the game is to gain as much of melds as possible and minimize the number of deadwood. Melds include sets (3 or 4 cards at the same rank) and runs (3 or more cards of the same suit in sequence). Deadwood cards are those do not belong to any meld.

• The two players take turn to deal.

• Scoring: Aces worth 1 point, face cards worth 10 points, the others are scored their numerical value

• Knock point is the difference between the lowest deadwood and the highest deadwood.

• Gin Bonus: If a player goes Gin, this player will be awarded 25 point of Gin bonus added to the deadwood point of their opponent.

• Undercut: If the defender has a lower deadwood point than the knocker, the defender is awarded 25 points of undercut bonus added to the difference between the two hands

Gin Rummy Game Play

• The game starts with the dealer drawing ten cards to each of the player and placing the 21st card face up at the center. This center area where the face up card is placed is called the discard pile. The other cards is place face down, these are the stock pile.

• In the first turn, the non-dealing player can choose to take the up card. If he does not want the card, the other player can take it. If the dealer also does not want the card, the non -dealing player has to take the top card of the stock pile

- From the second turn onward, the players can draw the top card of the stock pile or he or she can also draw the top card from the stock pile and discard one of the cards in hand

- The two players keep doing drawing cards to match their melds and minimizing their deadwood.

- When a player achieves the required condition, he or she may choose to knock, or if there are only 2 cards remaining in the stock pile, the winner will be declared by counting the score.

- Occasionally, a player is allowed to knock when his point of deadwood is 10 or lower. Player may also knock when he has 0 point of deadwood thus, he is declared to be a Gin hand.

- In order to knock, the player discards one of his or her card as usual then announces his knocking, showing the other player his entire remaining card with the melds indicated and the deadwood placed separately. The other player, who is now the defender will lay off the deadwood cards that match the knocker melds in case the knocker does not go Gin.

- The game is over when one player reaches 100 points and then, he will now receive 100 points of game bonus.
